Think technology should replace Braille? Think again.

Braille and technology both play essential, complementary roles, but when it comes to children who are blind or visually impaired, tech could be putting them at a great disadvantage.

Blind children deserve the chance to build true literacy – not just to listen, but to read, write, and think independently through Braille and grow. Listening alone cannot match the cognitive and professional benefits that come from actively decoding written language.

When businesses and educational systems invest in both Braille and technology skills, they help develop a workforce that is adaptable, empowered, and fully literate. With both foundations in place, adults can choose the way of accessing information that best supports an individual’s growth, productivity, and success.

Bottom line:

All children need to learn to read; listening isn’t the same as understanding written words. Braille is a core literacy skill, just like learning to use technology. As students grow up, they should be free to choose whichever format works best for reading and accessing information. How can you make this happen? Visit here: https://www.horizons-blind.org/about/
