Weekenders

For over two decades, Horizons for the Blind has sponsored Weekenders, an outreach social group for EVERYONE.

Each month, the Weekenders travel throughout the Chicagoland area in search of good food, fun, festivals, nightlife and more! Weekenders is open to everyone. Call 815-444-8800, extension 4, for more information. If you wish to attend, annual membership is only $10.

Weekenders March Event | First Ever Funday Sunday | Zoom | Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 2 PM

Kick back and relax in our first ever funday Sunday. Though it is a zoom meeting, you need not have a computer or smart phone to attend. To get into this event using a standard phone, do the following. Come one, come all! Help the weekenders find more unique events to attend, talk to old friends and make new friends. Weekenders April Event | Chicago A Cappella Concert, Building American Pop | Studebaker Theater at the Historic Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL | Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3 PM

Step into a musical time capsule as we revisit the Brill Building era the 1950s and ’60s with narrator Geoffrey Baer. These catchy, heartfelt songs capture the joy of everyday life and still strike a chord today.

The concert lasts 1 hour, 50 minutes, including intermission. Before the concert, we will be going to lunch at 12:00 noon at Miller’s Pub, 134 S Wabash, three blocks from the concert location. We will then walk to the concert venue. Let the receptionist know if you are planning to attend the lunch so we can have accurate numbers. We must have a minimum of ten people in order to get this group rate.

Cost: $33 for Members, $38 for Non-Members

Weekenders May Event | Lucy’s Comedy Show| Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N Williams Street, Crystal Lake, IL | Friday, May 22, 2026, at 8 PM (Doors Open at 7 PM)

Three comedians will keep us laughing Headlining this show will be Bob Jay is known as the man of 999 voices, Tory Ward combines her light-hearted personality with sardonic humor creating an experience that is hilarious and Mike Preston takes his slightly damaged take on things. There are plenty of options for dining within a 2-block area. Dinner will be your responsibility. The Raue Center for the Arts is a short 2 block walk from the Metra Station

Cost: $29 for Members, $34 for Non-Members

Weekenders June Event | General Meeting and Annual Picnic | Horizons for the Blind; 125 Erick Street A103, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 and Veteran Acres, 431 N. Walkup Road, Crystal Lake, IL 60012 | Saturday, June 20, 2025, at 10 AM

We will hold our semi-annual general meeting and election of Board Members at the Horizons Office at 10 AM. We will hold our picnic at Veterans Acres starting at Noon. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Brats, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Chips, Cookies, Soda, Water and Beer will be served. We will be playing Bingo.

Cost: $10 Dues, Members Picnic $10.00, Non-Members Picnic, $15.00
