INTRODUCTION
Horizons is pleased to present its new
catalogue for 2003. As you scan through the pages, you'll find many additions
as well as entries from our previous catalogue. To make it easier to find what
you need, we've included a table of contents.
Since its beginning in 1977, Horizons for
the Blind has worked very hard to make cultural, recreational and
quality-of-life experiences more accessible and interesting for those of us who
are blind or visually impaired. This catalogue of materials is a part of these
"access" activities.
Many of us have gone shopping or have had
articles read with exciting information about crafts or recipes--all of which
are unavailable to us. People who are sighted very often pick up a little book,
glance through it, and either use or collect the information. This opportunity
is rarely available to us.
Horizons' catalogue cannot possibly answer
all needs. But this collection of materials does begin to bridge that gap. All
materials are currently available in braille and large print. Prices for both
formats are the same.
We hope you enjoy our catalogue as much as
we like putting it together. We are constantly adding new titles, so be sure to
keep track of future issues.
And, let us hear from you! We would like to
know your preferences. You can help to build our collection to include your
favorite items.

Grab a pair of knitting needles and a cup
of your favorite coffee or tea and enjoy this book. You'll feel like its author
Maggie Righetti is sitting with you and chatting about knitting. This is one of
the best books we've found to show someone how to knit. It's not wordy--it's
just plain English! If you already know how to knit, you'll also like this book
as many of the more advanced stitches and techniques are discussed. Because
this book has a good index in the back, it will make an excellent reference
book to keep near your knitting patterns.
Crocheting In Plain
English: CP54 (3 volumes) $36.50
This book, also by Maggie Righetti, does
for crocheting what "KNITTING IN PLAIN ENGLISH" does for knitting. It
meets the needs of those who have never picked up a hook as well as those of
you who have been crocheting for years. We especially like the book because
pictures (often so vital in print instruction books) are not of great
importance. You will understand it without them. And, with Maggie's great sense
of humor, you will smile as you learn.

The Amish: REI01 (2 volumes) $22.50
In their own words, friendly Amish folks
from several different states and Canada describe their day from dawn to dusk.
For an inside look at the hard work, pleasant play, hearty meals and devout worship
of the "Plain People", 63 Amish families were asked to keep a
diary--all on the same day--of their dawn-to-dusk activities. Very interesting
reading!

reminiscences submitted by readers of Country, Country Extra, Country Woman
and Farm & Ranch Living.

knowledge, it is no longer available. It would be a shame to see this information
be lost. The following topics are included: general instructions; equivalents
and measurements; appetizers; beverages; breads; cream, butter, cheese; china,
glass, silverware; desserts; cakes; cookies; frostings; pies; eggs; fruits;
meats--beef, chicken, fish, lamb, pork; vegetables; and substitutions.

The Puzzles of Amish
Life: by Donald B. Kraybill AMI02 $16.50
The puzzles of Amish life are many.
Telephones, taboo in homes, stand at the end of farm lanes. Powerful tractors,
used at Amish barns, rarely venture into fields. State of the art calculators
are permissible, but not computers. Clothing, styled in traditional patterns,
is made from synthetic materials. Read this book and find out why.

This book is a careful analysis of the

up" by the readers of COUNTRY, COUNTRY WOMAN and REMINISCE Magazines.

IN THE CRAFT CLOSET
We have received a number of requests from
our customers for craft equipment. In an effort to comply with these requests,
we are now offering some of the "Boye Needle Company" products at a
reduced price to supply you with these needs. The more products you purchase
from us at our reasonable cost, the lower we can price our books and pamphlets.
So, even though our prices are lower than retail, we can reserve some of the
money you spend on these items and put it towards the higher cost of braille or
large print books. This way, you can save on products and your books. Think of
this when ordering gifts.
